SnapN'Go Duffle

Sewing Machine used - Semi-industrial Juki TL2200 QVP Mini

I did a total of 13 SnapN'Go with different bases and methods.  Since there is no lining and minimal bulk, I knew there should be more than 2 methods to sew the Duffle Bag.  The "OCD" in me tried French Seams and it worked beautifully!

Fabric base used -

  • Polycanvas 
  • Polyester 210D
  • Waterproof/water resistant canvas 420D/600D.
  • Water-repellent fabric 75D with woven backing.

Tester - Shonda 'Ferguson' Andrews

Machine used - Domestic Brother Innovis 2400
Recommended Skill level - Beginner
Material used -
Slim version with bias tape - Laminated cotton woven from a local quilting store. Brand of fabric is Kimberbell (Red, White & Bloom). Used 1 in red webbing.

Regular version with bias tape - Waterproof Therxtex from Fabric Therapy (Fantastic B3asts Coordinate & Your Grapeness). 1" webbing from Fabric Therapy.

"I'm one of those people who can never have to many duffle bags or reusable tote bags but never has one with me when I need it the most, so I end up purchasing another one while I'm out shopping. This pattern is going to eliminate my problem. I'll be able to toss my duffle bag that is easily contained in its own attached pouch into my purse and have one with me always. As a tester, I found the SnapN'Go Duffle a very relaxing and enjoyable pattern to sew. I recommend this pattern to all makers from beginner to advanced. There are several techniques in this pattern that can help you advance your sewing skills. For instance, you can get great practice sewing curves that have a mild and manageable radius. This is the pattern to make if you want to learn how to or improve your bias tape skills. With long straight edges and manageable curves you will become a bias tape pro."

Regular Version


Material - 
Slim version with serger and French Seams - Cotton woven and Ripstop. Woven is from Fabric Therapy (Manga Mashup - large scale).

"This is my 3rd SnapN'Go Duffle in one week and the possibilities are endless with this pattern. I used the slim version. I veered off course a little with this bag and wanted to test my own abilities and limits and due to the amazing pattern design everything still turned out great. I used cotton woven outer and Ripstop fabric as a lining and free motion sewed the 2 fabrics together to create a thin but sturdy fabric. I sewed the 2 fabrics together prior to cutting the actual pattern pieces out. I started out using the Serger method for binding but quickly switched over to the French seams to complete the duffle and instantly fell in love with the overall finish. I see myself making many more SnapN'Go Duffles. I think my favorite method will be the slim version with French seams.

A little side note: when folded up into the pocket this will make a great small travel pillow."

Regular version with bias tape - The style magnolia canvas 100% cotton, geeky string

"Such a fun pattern and great for my road trips to sort my gear.  This is a perfect bag to throw in your bag when traveling as it holds so many extra goodies. I love stuffing small expandable bags into my travel luggage! As I always have extras than need to be packed."

Recommended Skill level - Beginner for the Slim version.  Beginner to intermediate, since there are quite a number of curves for the Regular version.
Material used -
Slim version with binding - Fabric - polycanvas and satin bias tape. Webbing and hardware (D rings, swivel hooks, slider) from Sing Mui Heng. Zip pulls from Zipper Paradise.

"I love how very quick and easy this bag was to make! It’s such a nice big and roomy bag that can pretty easily be tucked away and put into your purse that you can then pull out and carry even more stuff. "This project was quick and easy! Don’t let bias tape or binding stop you from making it! This would be a great project to learn or practice those skills as it is very forgiving.
