The Story Behind Charvelle Compact

Ironically, the Charvelle Compact began because Charlotte requested a compact crossbody bag back in 2025. And yes - I’m a tad late for her liking!

Somewhere along the design process, she changed her mind and decided she still preferred the Be Hip instead - one that had already been cut and was yet to be sewn. But by then, the compact crossbody concept had already grown on me, and I couldn’t let it go.

As I worked through the prototypes, the design naturally evolved into something more versatile than originally planned.

I wanted a compact silhouette that felt stylish, functional, and highly customisable through fabric, hardware, and flap choices.

Core Feature - Four Flap Designs

One of the standout features of the Charvelle Compact is how dramatically the overall look changes depending on the flap style.

The pattern includes four flap options:

Option 1 - Classic
A timeless silhouette that pairs beautifully with almost any material.
Option 2 - Asymmetrical
Modern and edgy with a distinctive shape.
Option 3 - Wave
Soft curves for a more elegant and feminine aesthetic.
Option 4 - Accent Classic
A layered variation of the Classic flap, perfect for showcasing multiple materials or colour combinations.

Each flap gives the bag a completely different personality while maintaining the same streamlined structure and functionality.

The Charvelle Compact was designed with clean construction and practical organisation in mind.

Exterior slip pocket at the flap opening for quick phone access
Hidden back pocket seamlessly integrated into the flap construction

Clean drop-in lining construction for a polished interior finish

One of my favourite details is the hidden pocket created through the flap construction, giving the bag a clean and polished exterior while adding extra functionality.

Measurements

All cutting measurements provided throughout the pattern are listed as width x height.

Seam allowances (SA) are highlighted in RED throughout the pattern instructions for easy reference.

Measurements are given in both Imperial (Inches) and Metric (CM) units for your convenience.

Here are a few important guidelines to follow:

Always include a link to the original pattern.
Do not show or share any paper pattern pieces or measurements.
Avoid displaying your cut pieces on a gridded cutting mat throughout the video.
It's strongly recommended to do a trial test run, especially if you're new to Sewfisticated patterns. This helps you become familiar with the construction and terminology before filming.
